The first stage of Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Emergency Department Expansion incorporates a roof-top helipad named the ‘Dr Peter Thomas Helipad’, with a “hot lift” which transfers critically ill patients directly to the new Emergency Department’s resuscitation room. Patients are transferred directly to this lift via a 13m long ramp from the helipad.
Our 27.5m x 25.5m XE Enhanced Safety aluminium helipad is designed to cater for BA609 Tiltrotor helicopters and includes customized hole punching with anti-skid paint finish on our deckings to ensure that the safe movement of trolleys and personnel during emergencies or wet conditions. Our anti-skid surfaces have achieved a ‘V’ classification as per Sliptest requirements AS/NZ 4586:2004. The helipad is supported by an all-aluminium support frame which was also designed and supplied by us.
The helipad is currently in the final phases of construction and expected completion is April 2010.
