Ekofisk 2/4 L

Description

Ekofisk is located in the southern part of the North Sea, 300 kilometers southwest of Stavanger.

Ekofisk 2/4 L is an accommodation and field center platform in the Ekofisk Complex. Ekofisk 2/4 L, with its 552 beds, all in single cabins, is the largest accommodation platform in the North Sea. In addition to the accommodation facilities, the platform also contains a number of field center functions and systems.
Ekofisk 2/4 L is the regional telecommunications hub, as well as the hub for coordination of all air and sea traffic in the area. There are office facilities, a cafeteria, recreational areas and a section for health personnel.

The heli deck has two helicopter hangars with a capacity of 50 daily air movements. This is the most important helicopter landing area in the Greater Ekofisk Area.
The platform was installed during the summer of 2013 and is connected to the Ekofisk Complex by bridge.

Howard Allson Ltd were awarded the project to design and build an XE Enhanced Safety helideck, helideck support structure, 4 stair towers, a 32m high antennae tower, traffic control centre, a crane boom rest, andmiscellaneous other structures in aluminium alloy for this project.

The total weight of aluminium alloy structures build by Howard Allson Ltd for this project is in excess of 300MT.

The Ekofisk 2/4L helideck is a fully Norsok compliant XE Enhanced Safety helideck with a built in passive fire suppression capability.

The large 28.5m lightweight XE Enhanced Safety helideck incorporates a 3.3m high all-aluminium support truss together with a full perimeter walkway.

The attached photos show an almost entirely cantilevered helideck sitting on the 550man aluminium living quarters supplied by the LQ builders, Sembawang Marine and Offshore Engineering in Singapore. The deck is designed to cater for AW 101 and Sikorsky S92 operations and includes a foam fire suppressing system based on our Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System (DIFFS). One of the most interesting features of this project is the use of aluminium for the support arrangement.

The helideck was lifted into place in late 2012. When fully operational, this helideck will become probably the most frequently used helideck in the world with a planned 50 takeoffs and landings daily.
