Standalone Water-only DIFFS for Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 Offshore Substation

Hornsea 2 OSS is a normally unmanned installation (NUI) equipped with Howard Allson LTD XE Enhanced Safety™ helideck and standalone water-only DIFFS which allows for helicopter services during the construction and operations phases of the windfarm. The standalone DIFFS system relies on pressurized nitrogen gas to push water into the DIFFS nozzles for firefighting and is used where there is little or no power available for pumps.

Both the OSS and RCS platforms have been safely lifted into position after completing their 8,500 nautical mile journey from Singapore.

Located at the North Sea site 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in UK, Ørsted’s 1,386 MW Hornsea 2 will be the world’s largest wind farm when it goes into operation next year, producing enough green electricity to power more than 1.3 million homes.
